It Happened in 1955
Interesting things that happened in 1955:
1955 consumerism takes off in a big way with the sale of some 7.9 million cars in the US with 7 out of 10 families now owning a motor car, and new laws were put in place requiring seatbelts to be installed on all new cars. The average wages were now $3,851 per year, and the minimum wage was raised to $1.00 per hour. The first McDonalds was erected in 1955 and more fast foods and TV dinners are appearing including fish fingers. The first cans of Coca-Cola are sold up till then it had only been sold in bottles. Rock and Roll music continues to grow in popularity with more idols including Elvis Presley , Bill Haley and the Comets, Chuck Berry and The Platters, and young mens fashion matches the times with pink shirts and charcoal grey suits. MHS Class of 55 member sends in update!
Stan Thompson has made contact and included an update since the 50th reunion in 2005.
Stan wites: We've been living in the north of England since June, 2006 and actually have not done that much traveling outside of a couple of trips to Spain, over to Morocco, and one short trip to Germany. Most of our travel has been to Scotland, which is easy, because we're only 48 miles from the Scottish border.
I retired at the end of 2006. I am dealing with some health issues but nothing that interferes with normal activities. I started playing in a concert band in Kendal early in 2008 and am enjoying it a lot. I am unlikely to attend the 55th.
Regards to all,

Class of "55" Selects Catering for 55th Year event!
Miller House Catering is selected by the Class of "55" to provide Banquet for the 55th year event. This local Caterer is well known for their lavish Banquets with excellent food. The menu is outstanding and they guarantee "No one will go away hungry!" This Catering service was selected from a final field of three and was felt by the committee to be the very best to provide the reunion banquet. The biggest draw for this service was their selection of the main meat menu items. Every person present will enjoy not one but two meat items along with an abundant selection of side dishes, salads and deserts. The cost per person will be determined in the near future and notices will be sent out to each class member.
Plan now to attend the Class reunion on Saturday, August 21st with a mix-n-mingle at 5:00 p.m. with the banquet being served at 6:00 p.m. Location: Montesano City Hall Banquet room.
Second Day event: Class pot-luck Bar-B-Q on Sunday afternoon, August 22nd at the home of Charlie and Betty Crass, 7 Kayla Drive, Monte. Meat items will be provided by the class. Bring a side dish of your choice. Event starts at 1:00 p.m.
The pool will be open, so bring your swimsuits!
Plan now to attend the Class of "55" two reunion events on August 21st and 22nd.
